Misleading

Does anyone else consider dictionaries and encyclopedias to be enchanting primrose paths of knowledge? Anyone else start with one entry which leads to another, which leads to another, and before you know it a couple of hours have passed?

So in reading the Oxford Dictionary of World Religions in just such a manner last night, I came across the entry for "Bible Belt." And this is what it said:

"The southern states of the United States of America, where the mainstream of Christianity is characteristically fundamentalist, stressing the literalism and inerrancy of the Bible."

All well and good, you say? Well, yes, but then it was ended with this:

"See also: Branch Davidians."

Wait...huh? Do you really think the Branch Davidians (Koresh...Waco...) encompass all that is "Bible Belt" about the Bible Belt? I think maybe better to have added, "See also: Baptist," or "See also: Evangelical."

Branch Davidians = Bible Belt? Inasmuch as they happened to be IN the Bible Belt perhaps, but beyond that, um, no.

(OK, well it was humorous to me anyway.)

LOLOLOLOL!!! Oh my gosh... okay, I'd probably be REALLY mad and offended if I didn't find that just so hysterically ludicrious!

(we do that with encyclopedias and dictionaries here too - and online dictionaries are even worse, just one... more... click... yikes!)
